Unlike most markets, the midsize and large sedan market in China is thriving. It’s the reason why domestic automakers still build them, and other brands keep churning them out. There’s even a specialized market for long-wheelbase sedans over there, just to further drive the point home.

If anything, it’s China that’s been keeping the worldwide sedan market alive. So, it only makes sense if some of their biggest car companies continuously roll out all-new models.

Case in point, Geely has unveiled its Toyota Camry and Honda Accord rival. It’s called the Galaxy A7, and it has specs that look rather promising.

Geely certainly got the size right. The Galaxy A7 measures in at 4,918mm long, 1,905mm wide, 1,495mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,845mm. It’s a whisker shorter than the Camry and Accord, but the A7 is ever so slightly wider than both and has a longer wheelbase. Yes, it’s classified as a mid-size, but these are big sedans.

The shape follows classic sedan proportions with a long hood and an outline that appears to slice through the air effortlessly. There’s a full-width lighter at the front, and the small grille is a refreshing sight. While the rear deck suggests it’s a liftback, it’s really more of a short trunk.

Surprisingly, there are some button to be seen inside the A7. They’re mostly concentrated on the center console, but it’s nice to see, nonetheless. Of course, most controls are integrated into a massive touchscreen, and the instrument panel is a free-standing screen. A ’squircle’ two-spoke steering wheel is present, and no midsize sedan isn’t complete with a generous application of imitation wood.

Geely hasn’t revealed everything about the car just yet. However, we do know that it will come with advanced driver assist systems. No surprises there, and the same goes for its powertrain. No, it’s not a full electric vehicle. Instead, it’s a plug-in hybrid, more specifically, a series hybrid. It’s a similar arrangement to BYD’s DM-i system and Geely calls it NordThor.

There are no specific output figures just yet, but it does pair a 1.5-liter engine to a single electric motor. Geely is making bold claims about its range, saying it has a total range of up to 2,100km with a fuel consumption estimate of 50km/L. That said, we reckon real-world figures of about 1,000km.
