Every once in a while, a carmaker—usually from China—comes up with something to rival the ever-popular Toyota Alphard. There’s just really something about that luxury minivan market that everybody seems to keep wanting in on it.
Anyway, the latest brand to dip its toes in this segment is Great Wall Motor, which just previewed the new WEY Gaoshan at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). As with most vehicles that made a public appearance at this year’s show, this still won’t be available in the market just yet. That said, we were still able to take a good look.

In true luxury minivan fashion, the WEY Gaoshan sports a massive grille up front. Shine vertical chrome slats adorn this front fascia. At the rear, the vehicle gets a large lightbar on the tailgate that connects to the taillights. The latter gets a design that somewhat matches that of the grille.
The inside, of course, is the real highlight. The cabin has this premium feel to it, with white leather bits all around. Up front is a wide display that houses both the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The second row is fitted with a pair of captain seats complete with power adjustments, heating and ventilation, ottomans, and massage functions. The rear also gets a dedicated sunroof.
As for the powertrain, the GWM WEY Gaoshan packs a plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5-liter turbocharged powertrain paired with a 39.48kWh battery. The setup generates 480hp and 762Nm of torque and boasts an electric-only range of 140km. It gets a hybrid intelligent four-wheel-drive layout
