In September, the Department of Energy (DOE) carried out a fuel-economy test over a 155km run, mainly through the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

The event included around 70 passenger cars, with internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles in the mix. At the end of the run, the Honda Civic RS e:HEV stood out with an impressive 30.12km/L return. Its stablemate, the HR-V RS e:HEV crossover, also produced an efficient 28.08km/L.

Previous fuel economy runs from other sponsors had the hybrid Civic pegged at 24.2km/L, and 23.8km/L for the electrified HR-V. It looks like Honda’s e:HEV hybrid system continues to improve under various testing conditions.
