What if the next-gen Toyota Fortuner looked like this?

The all-new Toyota Hilux is out, and that only means one thing: It won’t be long until we see the next-gen Fortuner, the SUV that’ll be based on this same pickup.

While we’re waiting for that Fortuner, the people of the Internet have already gone ahead and imagined what it could look like. For this particular one, it’s artist Kleber Silva (KDesign AG on Behance)—we’ve featured his work here countless times before—who’s rendered his version of the midsize SUV.

The artist used the front end of the Hilux and put it on an SUV. If you’re on the Top Gear Philippines website often, then you might have read my thoughts on this design. For me, personally, it just doesn’t work. But that same look on an SUV? It’s growing on me.

Frankly, the only reason I think it looks better on this render is because of the rear end. The artist gave this next-gen Fortuner a Prado-slash-4Runner-like tailgate, and it’s a good fit. It matches well with the front clip, and with the underbody claddings on the fenders, it looks quite beefy.

The concept didn’t come with powertrain options, but we can assume the next Fortuner will have similar choices as the new Hilux, meaning there could be a plug-in hybrid version available in the future as well.
