This adorable but mighty little tyke is the iCaur V23—a small, five-door, all-electric SUV that was launched in China last year, and could be set to enter other markets in the coming months.

iCaur is still a relatively new brand itself and falls under the Chery International umbrella. In China, it’s actually known as ‘iCar’, but its name has been tweaked for...fairly clear reasons. iCaur says the V23 is a new type of SUV that’ll target a younger audience who wants to embrace the outdoors: Fishing, hiking, rock climbing, sitting on Instagram for six hours…that sort of thing.

And let’s just reel back into the design for a second: We dig the retro approach, all square shape and heavily armoured underbody. There’s a proper roof rack slung on top, too, a fully enclosed grille and short overhangs, though it’ll probably go through a slight revamp if/when it lands in markets outside the People’s Republic.

The cabin is neat and properly minimalist. There’s a couple of buttons for the most basic operations, plus a big 15.4-inch multimedia touchscreen and a freestanding phone holder. What else do you need? It’ll even offer up to 774 liters of cargo space with the rear bench folded flat. Because young people love a capacious cargo bay.

In the Chinese market, the V23 is currently available with a choice of rear-motor/rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor/all-wheel-drive powertrains, the latter providing a maximum of 208hp. With the largest 82kWh battery bolted on, iCaur claims over 480km of range. You’ll also get multi-link rear suspension, and the option of chunkier off-road tires if six hours of Instagrammin’ in the woods does seem appealing.

As for pricing, the entry-level V23 starts from just under P810,000 in China and scales up to P1.1 million for the range-topper. Oh, how great would it be if we got the V23 with those prices in the Philippines…
