It’s no secret that the new Isuzu MU-X will be launched in the Philippines soon. We first spotted it way back in January. While there hasn’t been any official news about it yet, it’s safe to say that the local debut is imminent.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, it’s been out for quite some time already. And given that we’re at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), we might as well take a closer look at it. After all, it makes for a good preview of what we can expect here soon.

On display at the show were the two distinct appearance packages for the new SUV. There’s the standard version and the more aggressive RS. Yes, even truck-based SUVs get RS badges these days. That said, the latter serves as the higher specification variant of the 2025 MU-X.

But regardless of which version is chosen, the heavily updated Isuzu MU-X gets a new pair of headlights, a totally redesigned front bumper, new wheel choices for the most part, and reshaped tail lights.

As for the RS, think of it as the Isuzu’s equivalent of the Toyota’s LTD and Mitsubishi’s Black Edition. That means a two-tone paint finish, gloss black highlights throughout the exterior, unique touches such as the honeycomb grille, and special alloy wheel designs.

Inside, the MU-X gets a significant overhaul. The digital instrument cluster gets a clearer, more modern look. The infotainment screen has also been enlarged to keep it bang up to date, and the RS version gets a sportier treatment.

We’re glad to see that the MU-X comes with a rear differential lock, something that has been sorely missing in the 4x4 version since it was launched. Finger crossed the Philippine version gets it as well. Another major highlight is the shift to an electronic power steering arrangement, allowing this SUV to get enhanced advanced driver assists. Should make steering and maneuverability easier, too.

Also present in the show is the new 2.2-liter turbodiesel that powers all 4x2 variants for the Thai market. The 3.0-liter powers the higher 4x2 trim levels, as well as the sole 4x4 variant. Power output ranges from 161hp to 189hp, with torque at 400Nm to 450Nm.

We’re curious how Isuzu Philippines will spec the new MU-X in the country. But judging by what we saw in Thailand, it’ll be hard to screw that up.
