Kia Philippines has announced that it will be bringing in a new model during the fourth quarter of 2020. While the company hasn’t outright named the vehicle, we think we have a pretty good idea what it is.
The news came via a Zoom conference call with Kia Philippines president Manny Aligada, who shared a teaser image during his presentation showing an outline of the upcoming car’s headlights and signature tiger-nose grille.
Now, the silhouette shown indicates the vehicle is a small SUV or crossover. In Kia’s current lineup, there’s only one such vehicle in that segment which sports a grille of that particular shape: The Kia Stonic subcompact crossover.
It makes sense. The Stonic is small and compact and is definitely on the more affordable end of the carmaker’s crossover lineup. It measures in at 4,140mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and 1,500-1,520mm in height.
In South Korea, the Stonic can be had with either a 1.0-liter turbocharged T-GDI gasoline engine capable of 118hp and 172Nm, or a 1.4-liter Kappa gasoline engine with 99hp and 132Nm. A 1.6-liter CRDi with 108hp and 260Nm is also available in other markets.
We asked Kia Philippines if our hunch is correct, but the company would not confirm it. Then again, we didn’t get a denial, either. So, is the Stonic a crossover you’d like to see available in the Philippine market? Let us know in the comments.
