This decade seems to see a lot of logo changes from automakers. A lot of them seem to have shifted to a flatter 2D design such as BMW and Audi. Now, it seems that Mazda will follow suit.
Recent trademark filings have suggested that Mazda will change its logo soon. Like the aforementioned German automakers, it could shift to the 2D look.

It’s unknown what Mazda plans with the new logo. Sure, it can put it in its cars, but it’s also possible that it will only be used for the company’s documents such as press releases and presentations.
Mind you, the change isn’t a huge departure from the current logo. That said, the ring is rounder this time around, and the ‘M’ has is more angular with straighter ‘wings’. Also, the Mazda font has been changed, and the metallic look has been replaced with all black.

We actually saw that new logo earlier this year. It was seen on the Arata and EZ-6 concepts displayed at the recent Shanghai Auto Show. Mazda didn’t make much noise about it, casually sticking it on the cars on the stand. It's also worth pointing out that the Iconic SP concept had a similar logo when we saw it during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.
Why the change, though? There’s no definite answer for that. But given that Mazda is continuing its push upmarket, it’s possible that the logo redesign is a reflection of the brand’s direction. Besides, most premium and luxury brands are adapting the simplified flat logo design.

There’s no telling when Mazda will apply this new logo or if it will appear on the cars. But either way, the folks from Hiroshima are still charging towards the premium segment with no signs of slowing down.
