MG Philippines has bolstered its lineup and thrown its name in the compact crossover sweepstakes with the new HS Hybrid+. With an introductory price of P1,388,888, MG’s latest offering is poised as a more valuable alternative to the likes of the Honda CR-V RS e:HEV and the Toyota RAV4 HEV. Once regular pricing kicks in, the HS Hybrid+ will remain competitive at P1,398,888.
Aesthetically, the HS Hybrid+ looks like a beefed-up version of the smaller ZS crossover, which was launched earlier this year. It holds the same sweeping lip across its fascia and a similarly designed grille.
However, it is undoubtedly larger, coming in at 4,670mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,663mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,765mm—slotting right into the compact crossover segment. The body then sits on 19-inch alloys, shod in 25/55R19 tires.

That extra size makes more room for five passengers and a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. That’s paired with a single motor and a 1.83kWh battery to complete the hybrid powertrain. Overall, it’s rated for a combined 221hp and 340Nm of torque, with an advertised fuel economy of 21.55km/L.
Inside, the interior is outfitted with a panoramic sunroof and a wide 12.3-inch dual-screen infotainment system. The 360-degree camera system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all channeled through those screens.
And as the HS is offered in a single variant, the car also gets the full MG Pilot suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. Functions like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assists, collision warnings, and a blind-spot information system all come standard on the HS. These features also helped the crossover secure five-star safety ratings from the Australasian and European New Car Assessment Programs.
