Mitsubishi has given the Outlander a (very) mild update

We think it's worthy of being sold here

In case you missed it, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines might be considering the next-gen Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for local consumption. For now at least, it's still up in the air, but at least we know the company is thinking about bringing in the electrified C-segment crossover.

Having taken one out for quick spin a few months ago, we can tell you that it's a solid ride. With the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 getting electrified, the plug-in hybrid system in the all-new Outlander can show those two a few tricks here and there.

As we wait for Mitsubishi Motors Philippines' decision on the fourth-gen Outlander, the Japanese version has recieved a bit of an update. Mind you, when we say 'a bit' we mean that almost literally.

For the 2024 model year, the Mitsubishi Outlander gets a couple of interior technology updates, additional standard equipment, and a new variant.  Aside from USB Type-C and Type-A, all versions now come with an HDMI port. Apparently, Outlander customers have been looking for that, says Mitsubishi.

Most variants also gain headlight washers  and LED rear fog lamps, regardless if it's all-wheel drive or front wheel drive. It's to improve visibility in bad weather, says the company. But the big new here is the addition of the Black Edition version. Opt for that model and it gets a head-up display, a BOSE premium sound system, and a panoramic sunroof thrown in the mix.

Of course, you've figured out by now that this variant gets, um, black highlights. The dynamic shield grille is finished in gloss black, so to are the side window moldings in black, and the roof rails.

Mechanically, it's still the same, but that's not a bad thing at all. The plug-in hybrid system gives the Outlander all-wheel drive and heaps of power. Its 2.4-liter engine is pated to an energy dense battery and a pair of electric motors. The result is a total system output of 248hp and a diesel-like 451Nm of torque.

Chances of this model coming here are slim, if we're being honest. However, we'd like it if Mitsubishi Motors brings in the new generation Outlander in the country eventually. Besides, don't you think the RAV 4 and CR-V deserve more competition?

If you said yes to that, then yeah, we think so, too.
