Remember the Mitsubishi L300 Versa Van? Well, it may be on its way back to Philippine roads, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has just published homologation papers for the nostalgic people-carrier.

However, this new version does not share a platform with the L300, but rather the Nissan Urvan. While the Versa Van may be in direct competition with the Urvan, the LTO’s database lists only one variant—namely the GLX 2.5D 2WD MT. Based on other Mitsubishi GLX vehicles, this Versa Van could be positioned as a step above the other entry-level commuter vans, while still keeping a manual transmission and diesel engine.

Nissan’s Urvan stable starts at P1.26 million for the base 2.5-liter diesel with a manual transmission. With that, the Versa Van could be slightly more expensive if Mitsubishi Motors Philippines does revive this nameplate.

And because it shares the bones of the Urvan, we can predict that the van will also perform similarly—129hp and 356Nm of torque, specifically.

The LTO papers list the Versa Van with a 15-passenger capacity, all in a frame that measures 4,710mm long, 1,695mm tall, and 1,990mm wide—with a wheelbase of 2,555mm.

With all of Mitsubishi’s buzz generating around the incoming Destinator, the return of the Versa Van could be its silent weapon in taking away sales from the Toyota Hiace Commuter.
