It’s not a hybrid, but...we’ll take it

If there was one model that we know for a fact people have been waiting for from Mitsubishi, it would have to be the Mitsubishi XForce HEV. We’ve seen it in other markets, and the reception from our readers has made it clear that our market really wants this.

Unfortunately, at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show, it’s still not what Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has launched, even if we really thought this would be it. That being said, we can cut the carmaker some slack, because Mitsubishi didn’t just launch “just another variant”—it also cut the XForce’s starting price. Big time. Emphasis on “some” slack, though.

The subcompact crossover now starts at P1.119 million for the base GLX trim. There’s a new GLS variant that stickers for P1.299 million as well. We know Mitsubishi has learned its lesson, considering how well the Destinator has been performing since its launch. Unlike the XForce, the Destinator was priced quite competitively from the start.

Mechanically, there are no changes, and it really doesn’t come as a surprise. The new XForce  variants still pack a familiar 1.5-liter four-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine capable of 103hp at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. This is also still mated to a CVT.

Of course, there had to be some downgrades to achieve this price cut. These variants miss out on the leather interior trim, digital instrument cluster, and of course, the Yamaha sound setup. These also sit on smaller and less premium-looking wheels.

Now, we know this might not be the hybrid we all were hoping to see, but you have to agree that this new price tag makes the XForce more appealing for a lot more buyers. Also, that now gives room for Mitsubishi to price the HEV model closer to its rivals. If it does make its way to our market. That, or if the Japanese carmaker eventually decides to build it here in the Philippines.
