Back in 2023, Mitsubishi Motors released a product timeline for models we can expect in the near future. One of the the cars mentioned was the hybrid version of the Xpander MPV.

At the time, it was mentioned that the electrified version of the popular MPV would arrive somewhere between 2023 and 2025. The company has kept to its promise as it has made 2024 as its official launch year.

In a post by Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, the launch date set for the hybrid MPV is on February 1, 2024. Not only that, the higher-riding Mitsubishi Xpander Cross will also benefit from an electrified powertrain.

Of course, Mitsubishi isn’t revealing details at the moment. The teaser photo does suggest a few exterior tweaks, but it’s still hard to tell at this point. We do see an HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) badge on the door as a mark of distinction.

The bigger question here is its powertrain. Yes, we know it will be a hybrid, but as to what kind is a mystery at the moment. We’re ruling out a plug-in option as it’s an expensive piece of tech and will price the MPV out of contention in the market. Besides, Mitsubishi would’ve badged it as PHEV in the first place.

With that, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross could either be a mild or a full hybrid. Initially, it was reported as a mild hybrid, but in more recent releases, MMC (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation) said that it will be a full hybrid. If so, it has all the potential to be a game changer in the segment. Either way, it will be interesting to see if there will be plans for this model in the Philippines.
