There was a time that the Volkswagen sold the Golf in the Philippines in both hatchback and station wagon guises. Its time in the country was short but sweet, and it’s one model we wish would come back here someday.

The all-new Volkswagen Golf was revealed a few years ago, but the local market never got it. Now in its eighth generation, it is said to be the final model to be powered by fuel-fed engines.

With that, we’re still wishing that the car would be sold here. There’s not much time left, either, as the facelift model is coming soon. How soon, you ask? It might be revealed this month as the first teaser image has been revealed. Just in time too as the Golf celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Interestingly, you won’t find that photo in any of Volkswagen’s websites, press releases or social media pages. Instead, you’ll have to go to Thomas Schäfer’s LinkedIn profile to see it. In case you’re wondering who that is, Schäfer is the current CEO of the company.

It’s a dark, shadowy photo for now but we do see its light signature. From what we can see, the profile remains the same. However, it seems that the headlights sport a new look. This being Volkswagen, we’re not expecting radical changes. The German automaker's facelifts are typically conservative, so it's likely relegated to a few light cluster tweaks, new bumper moldings, and perhaps new wheel designs.

However, there is some good news when it comes to the interior. There are no photos of it just yet, but it has been reported that the new Volkswagen Golf will ditch the haptic touch controls. If true, then we could see the return of good ol’ buttons and dials.

Volkswagen isn’t mentioning a launch date yet. However, given that the CEO has shown the teaser, the reveal could be within the month.
