Yes, one of the world’s fastest-accelerating cars is a truck...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the fastest accelerating cars you can buy today...and it’s a big old truck. Dubbed the Cyber-Hummer—which doesn’t at all make it sound like it’s about to call forth Skynet—it’s created by NAEV and is based on the classic H1 military vehicle, albeit with a few minor changes.

It uses a dual-motor setup to produce around 1,000hp, allowing this all-wheel-drive beast of burden to sprint to 100kph in just 2.5sec. Paired with a selection of Tesla-sourced batteries, you’ll even get around 480km of range.

Said batteries sit atop the same military-grade chassis from the original car, but NAEV has placed them low down in the frame for improved performance. It’s also aluminum-ized the body—almost halving the weight—and added a new independent fully-adjustable suspension that’s lighter and stronger than before.

Other notable points here include the integration of Tesla’s regenerative braking system and a set of Brembo calipers. These are then cocooned around R20 all-terrain tires, which provide a maximum ground clearance of up to 15 inches. It’s an Olympic high jumper in disguise, for goodness’ sake.

NAEV has also thrown in a few interior garnishes to perk up the old veteran,  including a Momo steering wheel, spates of vegan leather throughout, and a modernized sound system. Not that you’d pay much attention to all of these things, though, given you’re likely to be distracted by the sheer vacuum of space within.

“Historically, the H1 was such a cool truck and interestingly, the classic design layout is optimal for creating an EV and balancing batteries,” said NAEV founder Jeffrey Kotulak. “While modern EV options abound, there really is only one H1 and these electrified trucks are incredible to drive.”

The first examples will leave factories this summer, with three trim grades available from the off: Baja, Commander, and Executive. A commemorative Olympic high jump version has not yet been announced, sadly.
