As it gains popularity here, the Geely EX5 has been refreshed in China with plenty of updates inside and out. There’s actually a lot going on for a mid-cycle change, so let’s see what’s been done.
Starting with the exterior, the fascia has been revised to feature a more prominent lip colored with matte chrome accents. The flush door handles have also been dropped in favor of traditional handles. But while the outside doesn’t stray too far from the EX5 that the Philippine market is familiar with, there are major updates to be found inside.
Perhaps the most consequential of these is the switch to a rear-wheel-drive layout, which also allows it to offer cargo space via a new 160-liter frunk. We’re not sure about using it as a pet bathtub, though...
The new rear-axle-mounted electric motor is rated for 329hp—over 50% more power than the current front-wheel-drive EX5. It is then mated to either a 61.52kWh or 70.01kWh battery; the setup offers 446km and 514km of WLTP range, respectively.

The new drivetrain also necessitates a slight size increase. The updated EX5 now measures 4,630mm long, 1,920mm wide, and 1,670mm tall. New 18- and 19-inch wheel designs are also available depending on the trim.
A front-wheel-drive EX5 is actually retained as a base variant. While it does have the updated exterior styling, it retains the 215hp front-mounted motor (making a frunk unavailable with this trim) paired with a 60.22kWh battery. This still makes for around 430km of WLTP range. It also keeps the same dimensions as the current EX5: 4,615mm long, 1,901mm wide, and 1,670mm tall.
The EX5’s interiors also seem relatively unchanged. High-contact surfaces are still wrapped in soft-touch upholstery, and the center console keeps its faux-wood finish. The windshield HUD, the 10.2-inch instrument display, and the 15.4-inch infotainment screen also appear to have been carried over.
The fully electric EX5 first arrived in the Philippines last year, while its plug-in EM-i counterpart arrived this year. What say you? Is this a substantial enough update for Geely Philippines to bring over? Or does the current model suffice, for now? Let us know in the comments.
