How old were you when the R35 Nissan GT-R first came out? If you were a high school student, chances are, you’re working now, possibly with a spouse and a child.

It has been 17 years since the current generation GT-R came out. Since then, it has received several updates and upgrades inside and out. Power rose exponentially, so did its price.

But it’s time might be up soon. Reports from Japan have been saying that the R35 Nissan GT-R will stop production soon. Japanese automotive outlet Mag X says it will be stopped due to parts that will no longer be manufactured.

Mind you, this doesn’t necessarily mean that customers will no longer be able to buy it once production has stopped. It will still be available to customers for as long as there are stocks. At the same time, Mag X claims Nissan will roll out ‘Final Edition’ models before the curtain drops on the flagship sports car.

Per the publication, Nissan will make 1,500 of these special runout models. Of those units, 300 will be Nismo versions. It is said that the Japanese automaker will announce the GT-R for the 2025 model year this month to mark its final year.

Does this mean the next-generation GT-R is coming soon? Probably not. Remember, we waited five years between the R34 and R35 models. Hopefully though, the wait won’t be as long this time around. The Hyper Force concept shown during last year's Japan Mobility Show might be an indicator of the next model, and we could expect the first-ever electrified sports car from Nissan within the decade.
