By the time you read this, we’re just a few days away from the world premiere of the next-generation Nissan Patrol. It’s been a long time coming, too, as the current model dates back to 2010.

For the last couple of weeks, Nissan has been showing snippets of the new generation Patrol. So far, it has shown the grille, a few lights, and a section of the rear end. Now, we’re getting into a specific technical detail.

Finally, Nissan has confirmed the engine for its flagship SUV. That said, one can say that it’s a little bit anticlimactic as it’s one just about everyone has been expecting. Perhaps to the surprise of no one, the all-new Nissan Patrol will use a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.

Yes, it’s the same block used in its more luxurious twin, the Infiniti QX80. Nissan has also stated power figures, rated at 425hp and 700Nm of torque. It’s exactly the same as the Infiniti and presents a significant gain over the old 5.6-liter V8. The boosted V6 gains 25hp and, more importantly, 140Nm of torque over the eight-cylinder. That engine is then paired to a nine-speed automatic.

With that, the pieces as slowly coming together for the redesigned Nissan Patrol. By the looks of things, we’re not expecting a diesel option for this SUV, just like the outgoing model. Still, the shift to a downsized turbo will give it more power, and possibly, better fuel economy.

Not that Patrol users were ever bothered by the latter, though.
