When the first Nissan Patrol Nismo came out way back in 2015, its tuned 5.6-liter V8 grabbed headlines with its power output. At the time, it made 428hp and 560Nm of torque, easily making it one of the most potent full-sized SUVs in the market.

These days, however, those numbers seem pedestrian. Besides, the new-generation Patrol already makes a heady 425hp and 700Nm from its twin-turbo V6 engine. Sure, it’s down by 3hp, but it’s got heaps more torque than the previous performance-oriented model.

So, to make the all-new Patrol Nismo more special, Nissan decided to crank up the boost, literally. The result is probably one of the most powerful full-sized production SUVs ever produced by Japan.

How punchy, you ask? The new engine gets a healthy 70hp improvement over the standard version. If you do the math, that’s 495hp being sent to all four wheels via a permanent 4WD system. Shifting comes courtesy of a retuned 9-speed automatic. Meanwhile, torque is retained at 700Nm.

At over 2,800kg, the Nissan Patrol Nismo won’t exactly challenge a Z on twisties, but it does come with suspension upgrades to make it sportier than the standard variants. There’s the NISMO-tuned E-Dampers that automatically adjust damping levels in real-time, along with a sharper power steering system that’s exclusive for this variant.

Aesthetically, the Patrol Nismo comes with aerodynamically-enhanced bumpers with layered air diffusers. The honeycomb grille is larger than the ones found on regular trims, and it’s claimed to feed in even more air into the engine.

Nissan didn’t shy away from the red highlights, either, and the larger tailgate spoiler won’t be for introverts. The kit means ground clearance takes a hit, though. From 244mm, it goes down to just 195mm.

Of course, the wheels are worth a mention. It was co-developed with Rays, and it features a nine-spoke, two-tone design that measures 22-inches. It’s not just for aesthetics, either, as these are forged and help reduce unsprung weight.

Inside, it’s essentially the standard Patrol but with racier bits. In this case, red highlights are the order of the day, while the seats get chunkier bolsters to keep the front occupants in place. A panoramic sunroof is available, along with a rear entertainment system.

With that, the all-new Nissan Patrol comes in three distinct flavors. There’s the plush luxury-oriented models, followed by the recently-launched off-road ready Pro-4X. With the addition of the Nismo, you can now include performance vehicle to that list.
