JAS Motorsport has revealed the name of its latest project, and it will be called ‘Tensei.’ Apparently, it means ‘rebirth’ in Japanese, and that’s chiefly because it marks the return of Senna’s favorite old car: the Mk1 Honda NSX.
Welcome back to the coolest restomod you’ll see this year. JAS—Honda’s long-time motorsport partner—has teamed up with noted sketchbook enthusiasts Pininfarina to resurrect the ’90s supercar icon.
And the name, ‘revealed’ to a select group of customers at Fuji Raceway last month, is meant to signal the philosophy JAS and Pininfarina will deploy. We know the body will be a full carbon-fiber job, the engine will be Honda’s original naturally aspirated V6 tickled to giddy excitement, a six-speed manual gearbox will occur, and each unit will be spun off an original production car.

“Tensei will feature cutting-edge technology and advanced mechanics derived from the world of competition,” said JAS, which has a fair bit of experience in the world of competition. Around 30 years of it.
