One can say that the previous-generation Ford Ranger and Everest forced a lot of us to expect more from pickups and mid-sized truck-based SUVs. Those models drove well, rode well, but could still do heavy lifting and off-roading if needed.

The current versions of these Ford vehicles evolved from the solid foundations, but there is newer competition creeping in. The all-new versions of the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport are expected to arrive soon. Also, the Isuzu MU-X has just received a major update in Thailand. And this is just the SUVs we talking about.

Over at the pickup front, the Ranger has to contend with redesigned versions of its biggest rivals. Two of them are in production in the form of the redesigned Mitsubishi Triton and the refreshed Isuzu D-Max. On the horizon are the all-new generations of the Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux. Things are going to get tougher for the Ford duo in the coming years.

So, what is Ford to do? Per Australian motoring publication Drive, the Everest and Ranger are set to receive their first facelift and update by 2026. The publication also reports that production could begin as early as late 2025. Drive didn’t mention any other details other than the possible launch year.

Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid

That said, there are a couple of things we can expect from the facelifted Ford trucks. If you recall, the Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid was revealed with customers getting their units by 2025. We’re almost certain at this point that the facelifted models will also get the electrified option.

With that, it also opens up the possibility of the Everest coming with a plug-in hybrid option. Should Ford be able to pull that off, it will be a first for its class. The plug-in hybrid system consists of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine mated to an electric motor. Another likely addition to the Ford Everest range is the rumored Wildtrak X version with a wider wheel track, standard all-terrain tires, and more ground clearance.

Styling-wise, we could see more cues from the North American truck and SUV lineup. The interior might also see a revision, hopefully with more of its off-road-related functions moved to a button rather than buried in the touchscreen.

It’s unknown what kind of engine updates the Ranger and Everest will get by then. There’s a good chance that it’ll be focused on emission control. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ford wants to get the four-cylinder diesel horsepower crown back from Toyota.
