Planning for an all-new model doesn't just takes months. If we were to include research, development, and further testing, it can take as much as five to ten years, depending on what kind of car an automaker is set to build.
There are times these cars are developed at the same time. That explains why there are years that a car company launches several models, one after the other. That brings us neatly to Mazda.

According to a report by Wheels Australia, 2024 and beyond will be very busy for the folks from Hiroshima. That's because there are several new and/or redesigned models in the pipeline.

Per the article, there are three confirmed all-new cars for the 2025 model year. The first in the list is the third-generation CX-5. Another crossover slated for 2025 is something called the CX-80, likely the one that will succeed the CX-9. Lastly, a new version of the CX-90 will join the range, gaining a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

But perhaps the most exciting of the ‘confirmed’ batch is the next-generation MX-5. It is yet to be determined if it will have some form of electrification, but we're pretty certain that Mazda will do all it can to keep the weight down. About time too as the current ND platform will be a decade old by then.

But aside from those, Wheels Australia reckons there will be even more launches down the line. One of them is the Mazda 2, a model that is rather overdue for a full model change. There was no launch year specified, but 2025 seems likely.

Speaking of models that need a total redesign, there's also the Mazda 6. It is said that it will utilize the same chassis as the CX-60 and CX-90, so we could see rear-wheel drive and inline-six powertrain configurations for the midsize sedan.

One surprising inclusion is a new generation CX-3. The publication claims that it is still a strong selling model, so it's likely to live on despite the existence of the CX-30. But perhaps the boldest claim is the return of the RX-7, said to be based on the Iconic SP Concept shown during the Japan Mobility Show 2023.
Should all those model launches be confirmed, 2025 and beyond will be very hectic for Mazda. Still, there's a lot to look forward to, and we have high expectations given that the brand is in full swing for its premium push.
