When it comes to performance cars, Subaru is better known for its WRX. But let’s not forget that the brand also has another sports car in the form of the BRZ. While it doesn’t have as much horsepower and torque as the WRX, the coupe trades that for rear-wheel drive thrills.
Of course, there are those wondering if Subaru will ever release a higher performance version of the BRZ. Well, the brand has answered that with the BRZ tS, and it gets STI goodies along the way. However, we’ll get the bad news out of the way first.

For those hoping it’ll get a few more horses under the hood, they might be a little disappointed. The BRZ tS still has the power and torque figures as the standard model. Its 2.4-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine still makes 224hp and 250Nm of torque. It’s not bad, but folks who want more power should take the aftermarket route.

So, where exactly are these STI goodies? Well, you’ll have to peek under the chassis to find these. For starters, the coupe comes equipped with STI-tuned front and rear Hitachi dampers. According to Subaru, these dampers help maximize the BRZ’s light weight, low center of gravity and handling. The end result is greater flexibility and better control and stability, says Subaru.

It also gets a high-performance Brembo braking system, including gold-painted 4-piston front calipers, gold-painted 2-piston rear calipers and larger pads and rotors, because, well, Subaru. The company claims it enhances stopping power, fade resistance and pedal feel. Also noteworthy is the addition of EyeSight, Subaru’s advanced driver assist system, in manual transmission models.

As for cosmetic upgrades, this BRZ gets tS badging in the front grille and on the trunklid. Meanwhile, the side mirrors and roof-mounted shark fin antenna come in a Crystal Black Silica finish. The tS is also fitted with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in a dark gray finish. Inside, it has contrasting blue stitching on the front seat bolsters, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shifter boot and parking brake boot.
