It looks more like an Outback than the, er, Outback

Meet the Subaru Trailseeker, and its an all-electric off-roading station wagon.

The first-ever Trailseeker has been designed as an EV from the get-go, going beyond simply an electric version of the Outback. Its sleek headlights and solid grille hit the current design trend right on the head, and the deep black plastic wheel arches help maintain that practical, ‘ain't-no-mountain-high-enough’ rep.

Unsurprisingly then, the Trailseeker gets Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive system and 210mm of ground clearance. It's powered by a battery (size not specified yet) that'll last about 420 kilometers on one charge.

Subaru has reeled off a mighty list of driver assistance technology, with all the usual suspects – such as blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist – making an appearance. And inside, the cabin has a 14in infotainment screen with phone mirroring support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There are also wireless charging and rear USB-C ports for folks in the back. The tech game is most definitely on.

Subaru Solterra 2026

Elsewhere, there’s also a refreshed Solterra. The headline upgrade is the new lithium-ion battery, carrying an extra 25 percent range thanks to the new battery pre-conditioning system, and supporting up to 150kW rapid charging. By heating the battery on the way to the charger, it can achieve a 10-80 percent recharge in less than 35 minutes.

Other changes include new headlights, a tweaked front end, a new rear badge, rear spoiler and newly designed wheels. The updated Solterra will also get the same cabin tech and driver assist package as the Trailseeker.
