It has been a couple of years now since the Subaru WRX STI was pulled from production. The last one rolled off in 2021 with no successor still in sight. For now, the fastest four-door, all-wheel drive Subaru sedan you can buy is the WRX.

As we wait for the true STI successor, Subaru has been making special editions of the standard WRX. Most recently, there was the WRX STI Sport# that was released in Japan. Now, there’s yet another one on the way.

Dubbed the Subaru WRX Club Spec, it has most of the exterior bits one expects from an STI. However, it doesn’t seem likely that it’ll get more power under the hood. It also appears to be an Australian market-exclusive model and only 150 of these cars will be built.

The most obvious nod to the STI is the massive wing on the trunk. It’s been a long time signature of the STI, and we’re glad to see it back on a fast four-door Subaru. Other additions to the Club spec are meatier Brembo brakes, larger 19-inch alloys, and a pair of Recaro seats inside. A few suspension upgrades are likely included, although there is no official word yet.

As mentioned, we’re not expecting any increases in horsepower. Should that be the case, it means its 2.4-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine will carry on making 271hp and 350Nm of torque. The lone transmission choice for the Club Spec is a six-speed manual.

But when will Subaru come up with a true STI successor? So far, Subaru isn’t confirming (or denying) the next-generation model. But looking at the Club Spec, there are just a few more tweaks to make it the rally-ready sedan we’ve known and loved through the years. Give it gold wheels, a more aggressive aero set, and over 320hp, and Subaru can easily have itself a proper Civic Type R and GR Yaris fighter.

C’mon Subaru, we know you want to build it.
