The Department of Energy has included the Tesla Model Y L—the longer, three-row, six-seater version of the Model Y—in its list of recognized EVs. Could this signal its arrival in the Philippines soon?
The Tesla Model Y L is currently only sold in China, where it was launched last year. The Model Y L is 186mm longer than the standard five-seater at 4,969mm. It has three rows with two captain seats in the second row, and two more seats in the third, making plenty of space for six passengers. The maximum cargo capacity is also larger, with 2,539 liters compared to 2,138 liters in the Model Y.

Inside, second-row passengers can enjoy power-folding armrests and ventilated seats. Apart from the wireless charging pad in the front, every row has USB-C ports to power your devices. Other features on the Model Y L include a slightly larger 16-inch central touchscreen and an 18-speaker audio system.

It is currently only available with a dual-motor AWD configuration, so that—plus the extra cabin space—makes it heavier than the standard Model Y, at 2,651kg. The battery, however, still packs a punch, at 378kW or 506hp with a generous 751km range—more than enough to reduce range anxiety for daily use.
Just for context, the Tesla Model Y L is priced at around P2.7 million in China. With its extra cabin space and features, do you think this six-seater would perform well in our market?
