Ford Group Philippines is optimistic the Ford Fiesta will create "big waves" in the Philippines when it finally arrives in the second half of the year.
"We are very excited about the pending arrival of the internationally-lauded Ford Fiesta here in the Philippines," Ford Group Philippines president Rick Baker said in a statement issued following the debut of the Ford Fiesta at the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show. The Fiesta will be Ford's first B-car entry in the local market.
Car enthusiasts in Bangkok are currently feasting on the Thailand-built four-door and five-door models of the Fiesta.
"The new Fiesta has been making waves wherever it's sold around the world and it will certainly make its mark in this growing segment in the ASEAN region. Customers will love it for its kinetic styling, driving dynamics, fuel efficiency and advanced technology," Ford Thailand senior vice president Saroj Kiatfuengfoo said.
While the company has yet to reveal details of the Fiesta variants which will be sold in the Philippine market, Ford said available Fiesta variants come with 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter engines.
"The new Fiesta also will be the first Ford in ASEAN available with an advanced new six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission. This is the first time that Ford's PowerShift gearbox is applied in small cars in Asia," Ford said.
The six-speed PowerShift technology--currently available in the Philippines in the Ford Focus TDCi--promises to "deliver the fuel efficiency of a manual gearbox with the convenience and ease of a premium automatic transmission."
Other Ford Fiesta features include safety implements like the driver-side airbag, anti-lock braking system, and Electronic Stability Program, as well as a voice control system, Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity.
Ford has sold over 500,000 units of the Fiesta since its global debut last year.
