Nearly a year ago, Bentley unveiled the all-new, second-generation Continental GT. It's quite appropriate then that the British luxury carmaker will debut the convertible version of the Continental GT at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
According to Bentley, while the new Continental GTC builds on the highly successful foundation of the previous model, the assertive stance of the new model gives it a more contemporary and muscular presence.
The use of advanced manufacturing techniques to give the Continental GTC its seamless and weld-free aluminum front wings give it the look and feel of a coach-built car. Though 21-inch wheels are now standard with the Continental GTC, it's also offered with three different designs to reinforce the car's distinctive sporting stance.
The GTC's renowned coupe-like refinement is also enhanced with the use of tailored, multi-layered fabric for its soft top to go with the acoustic glass and underbody panels.
Bentley's luxurious yet sporty convertible gets a new and even more spacious cabin, with customers able to choose from 17 standard soft-touch leather-hide colors with six color-split combinations that's complemented by a range of seven wood veneers, all produced by Bentley's talented craftsmen and women. Besides the luxurious touches, the GTC's cabin is made even more practical with the additional rear legroom and new storage solutions to go with innovative features like the automatic seat-belt presenters and a Bentley-designed neck warmer for comfortable top-down motoring whatever the temperature.
Performance-wise, the Bentley GTC has wider front and rear tracks, sharper steering and a retuned suspension to give it a more exhilarating drive. Bentley's advanced all-wheel drive system gives the GTC a 40:60 rear torque bias, minimizing understeer during hard cornering. Underneath the bonnet is the same drivetrain that powers the Continental GT which means it has a 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12 engine that puts out 567hp and 700Nm of torque as well as a new QuickShift transmission that enables faster gear changes than ever before.
"The GTC has always been the most emotional model in the Continental range and a showcase for Bentley design. With its tailored soft top, the GTC is a pure British convertible true to those classic Bentleys of the past. However, the technology, performance and overall design excellence invested in this model means that we are now writing a new chapter for the Bentley convertible driver," said Bentley Motors chairman and chief executive, Wolfgang Dürheimer.
