Subaru has finally given a name to the two-door, rear-wheel drive sports car it has been developing with Toyota: the BRZ.
"The Subaru BRZ name stands for the amalgamation of key concepts: 'boxer engine', 'Rear-wheel drive' and 'Zenith'," the carmaker said in a statement. "The car stands for the ultimate passion and confidence. And at its heart lies the venerable 'Horizontally-Opposed Subaru Boxer engine.'"
According to the Japanese carmaker, the technology concept of the BRZ which it calls as the "Subaru BRZ Prologue--Boxer Sports Car Architecture II" will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Last March at the Geneva Motor Show, Subaru unveiled the Boxer Sports Car Architecture concept which showcased the car's drivetrain.
Subaru revealed that the production of the BRZ is expected to begin in the first half of 2012.
