Celebrations are in order at the BMW Group Plant Munich in Germany. There, BMW’s millionth M vehicle has just rolled off the assembly line, with an orange M3 marking the milestone.
BMW also announced that the Munich factory will soon build the fully electric M3, which will be the first Neue Klasse performance model. To BMW, keeping production of the M3 in Munich was of the utmost importance. Assembly of the current M3 began in 2020, deepening the connection between the city and the sedan.

“We are delighted that we will also be producing the first fully electric BMW M3 here in Munich,” said Peter Weber, head of BMW Group Plant Munich. “BMW M has a special emotional significance for our associates here—so we are especially proud to be actively shaping the future of this icon.”

Starting in 2027, Plant Munich will only produce fully electric vehicles. This long-planned transformation will cost BMW around €650 million (around P45.78 billion) upon completion.

About a third of the factory’s total area has been remodeled to house EV assembly infrastructure. These include special logistics areas and a new body shop for fully electric models. At the same time, new digital systems have also been adopted to further optimize production.
In August 2026, Plant Munich began assembling the i3, the second model under the Neue Klasse. With the fully electric M3 on the horizon, we’ll likely see more celebration and fanfare as BMW dives deeper into its new era.
