BYD Cars Philippines, together with dealer partner Sealectric, has deployed 20 Sealion 5 DM-i units to the taxi company Highland Transport Service Cooperative (HTSC) in La Trinidad, Benguet. The initiative marks the country’s first Sealion 5 taxi fleet and a milestone in the modernization of mobility in La Trinidad and the Cordillera region.
The new plug-in hybrid fleet is expected to reduce operating costs for drivers while providing passengers with a quiet, comfortable, and sustainable commuting experience. The deployment supports HTSC’s ongoing re-fleeting program that aims to modernize transport services and improve long-term operational efficiency.
The Sealion 5 DM-i is BYD’s entry-level SUV. It’s a five-seater and has around 520 liters of cargo space. It features a plug-in hybrid system composed of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor delivering 195hp and 300Nm of torque to the front wheels. It has a combined driving range of 1,001km and a fuel economy of around 25.27km/L.

According to BYD, the initiative highlights the company’s commitment to advancing electric mobility solutions for local transport operators, while providing more efficient and accessible transportation options in the country.
