Do you have either model?

Do you own a Ford Ranger or Fiesta? If yes, then you might want to wait for further updates on an upcoming recall in the Philippines. This time, it’s to address an issue with the two models’ door latches.

Ford Philippines says that it will be reaching out to affected owners of its best-selling pickup truck and subcompact hatchback to have the door latches of these vehicles replaced. The company added that parts are now available at all its dealerships, and that the repair will take less than half a day. What’s more, addressing the problem will be completely free of charge.

“We will be sending a letter to Fiesta and Ranger customers with specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to have the side door latches on their vehicles replaced. Parts are now available at all Ford dealerships, and all of this work will be completed free of charge (parts and labor). The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day,” Ford Philippines said in a statement.

The door-latch issue is the same one concerning Ford Ranger (manufactured from May 23, 2011, to May 20, 2015) and Fiesta (May 27, 2010 to September 1, 2016) units in the Australian market. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), a total of 85,863 Rangers and 42,907 Fiestas are affected.

The ACCC also shared that there is a chance pawl spring tabs in affected units may break. If this happens, this will prevent the door from latching or unlatching if it manages to close: “If the door opens while the vehicle is in use, the occupant may fall out.”

Again, Ford Philippines will reach out to you in case your vehicle is affected. Stay alert.
