We read your reactions on our coverage of the potential Honda-Nissan merger, and chuckled at every single “Honda Civic Type Z,” and “Nissan CR-XTrail” comment. These have all been funny, outrageous, and have started some interesting conversations at the office.
But we might be entering the realm of the possibility in the near future as Honda Motor Company executive vice president Noriya Kaihara brought up the idea of Honda and Nissan collaborating on a full-size SUV.

As reported by Car and Driver, during a roundtable discussion at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Kaihara discussed how Nissan’s lineup of full-size SUVs could temporarily fill a gap in Honda’s current offerings. Kaihara could have been referring to the Nissan Patrol or Armada, and comparing it to the smaller Honda Pilot (pictured below), or CR-V. The Honda Pilot is the largest car Honda currently offers, but against the likes of the Nissan Patrol, Ford Expedition, or the Toyota Sequioa, the Pilot gets boxed into midsize SUV territory.
Kaihara did mention that swapping logos and borrowing cars would only be a temporary solution, and something to relieve the short-term demand. With the ultimate goal to protect and uphold the integrity of the Honda brand throughout its partnership with Nissan, and perhaps co-develop a vehicle later on.

Another point of collaboration Kaihara discussed was software. Honda is slated to debut its futuristic EV lineup in 2026, along with a brand-new operating system titled ASIMO OS. Honda is developing the OS itself, but Kaihara stated that Honda is open to collaborating with Nissan on this system to share costs.
And well, that could get the ball rolling for a Nissan Kicks e:HEV, or a Honda BR-V e-Power.
