The 2025 Japan Mobility Show is right around the corner, and Mazda has just teased what it will show at the event. Visitors can catch the all-new CX-5 in its first public display, and that’ll sit alongside the modified CX-30 SeDV—or Self-empowerement Driving Vehicle. This crossover has been specifically designed to help persons with special mobility needs drive with more independence.

There should be a lot more interesting vehicles, but the star of the show will undoubtedly be the Vision Model concept. Mazda has released a teaser photo showing off the concept’s coupe-like design and long roofline. It’s not a lot to go on, but it seems like just enough to get the RX-8 fanbase hoping again.

One of Mazda’s most coveted silhouettes ended production 13 years ago, in 2012, and rumors have been circulating about its return. However, whether it comes back with a rotary-powered engine is an even cloudier speculation.

The theme of Mazda’s booth this year focuses heavily on sustainability and cleaner automotive infrastructure, which completely contradicts the revival of a screaming-gas-chugging-rotary coupe. With that, the Vision Model will likely utilize a fully electric powertrain.

Other rumors point toward a range-extended setup, but with a rotary-powered generator to charge the battery. That’s not exactly what the rotary fans were looking for, but it will surely be more economical.

We’ll know more once the auto show kicks off. Watch this space for the latest updates.
