A number of us on the team have had the pleasure of meeting Garen, one of the most popular rescues of Pawssion Project. Despite being blind after a hit-and-run incident in 2020, he’s one of the sweetest, nicest, and happiest dogs you’ll ever meet.
Well, Garen and his fellow rescues now have even more reasons to be happy thanks to the new partnership between Pawssion Project and Mazda Philippines. The Japanese carmaker has teamed up with the non-stock, non-profit organization not just to raise funding for the care and rehabilitation of its rescued animals, but also to boost awareness about its cause.

To help with the foundation’s transport needs, Mazda is lending out a customized BT-50 pickup for daily use. It wears a special livery designed by artist and former Top Gear Philippines art director Jaykee Evangelista, and has a sliding cargo tray as well as an aluminum canopy to keep supplies protected from the elements. The interior has also been pet-proofed with deep-dish floor mats and easy-to-clean waterproof vinyl seat covers with taped stitching. Additional storage compartments have been fitted under the backseat for emergency food, water, and medicine.

In addition, Mazda Philippines will donate P1,500 for each BT-50 sold in August 2025, to sponsor a Pawssion Project rescue on behalf of the buyer. If you purchase a BT-50, you can also choose to adopt, donate, or continue sponsoring one of over 640 rescues currently residing in Pawssion Project’s Bacolod and Bulacan shelters. This will allow the organization to help even more stray and abused animals, adding to its tally of over 2,500 animals rescued, 1,100 rehomed, and 3,800 spayed and neutered since it was founded by Malou Perez in 2018.

“Mazda Philippines’ partnership with Pawssion Project continues to show that mobility can be purposeful—and that every drive has the power to make a difference,” said company president Steven Tan. “Malou Perez and her unwavering passion to help all these abused and neglected animals is an inspiration, and it is something we recognize.”
