MG Motor Philippines (MGMP), operated by SAIC Motor Philippines (SMP), cemented itself as a top car brand in the country, by recording a total of 9,012 unit sales in 2024. That number puts MG at ninth in the country, sliding right in between Korean carmakers, Hyundai Motor Philippines at eighth and Kia Philippines at tenth.

The MG 5, the Chinese brand’s subcompact sedan, drove most of MGMP sales in 2024, with help from the MG ZS, and MG G50 Plus. The trio covers what seems like the most popular segments in the Philippine market, namely the subcompact sedan, compact crossover, and MPV classes. This extensive range and cost-friendly prices are the likely cause of MGMP’s gradual rise in the country.

And for the current year, MGMP isn’t planning to reinvent the wheel. New models and more dealerships will be the brand’s strategy for climbing up the Philippine automotive ladder in 2025. Currently, there are 46 dealers in the network, and MGMP has more than a couple of electrified vehicles in its lineup.

Like the ICE cars, the hybrid and fully electric MG vehicles cover different body types and are offered at accessible prices without compromising on tech and comfort. The MG 3 Hybrid+, starts at a friendly P1.088 million while its gas-powered counterparts sticker for well under a million.

While the entire Philippine automotive market is collectively attempting to hit the 500,000 mark in units sold, let’s see if MGMP can break the 10,000-unit ceiling for 2025.
