Top Gear Philippines Philippine Car News - Nissan Patrol sets Guinness World Record

The sixth-generation Nissan Patrol--sold locally as the Patrol Royale--has recently set a Guinness World Record for towing the "heaviest object pulled by any production vehicle."

Held at the Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, the stunt saw an unmodified production 5.6-liter V8 Patrol tow a 170.9-ton, fully laden Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane for over 50m. This breaks by 15 tons the previous record set by a Volkswagen Touareg in 2006, when it pulled a Boeing 747-200 over the same distance.

"When we began this project, we encouraged the people of the Middle East to dream up the next and ultimate challenge for the Hero of All Terrain, the Nissan Patrol," said Nissan Middle East managing director Samir Cherfan. "The Guinness World Record achieved here motivates us to ensure we deliver 'Innovation that Excites' in everything we do in the Middle East region."
