While the Toyota Camry isn’t selling like it did about a decade ago, it’s still winning the hearts of those who choose it every year. Sure, it’s not the sportiest or most dynamic in the midsize sedan class, but Consumer Reports calls it a winner for other reasons.
That’s why the evergreen sedan has been chosen as the organization’s top pick for midsize sedans. It beat out other firm favorites such as the Honda Accord and Mazda 6. The Camry doesn’t win out on performance, but rather, owner satisfaction, practicality, and reliability.

Per Consumer Reports, ‘The Camry is now offered solely as a hybrid, and based on its performance in our tests, that’s a good thing. It’s even more fun to drive, striking a fine balance between sharp handling and a smooth ride. The hybrid powertrain benefits from a 17hp increase over the last generation, while gaining 1 mpg (0.4km/L) in our tests, for 48 mpg (20.4km/L) overall.’

Let’s not forget that the Toyota Camry consistently tops the charts in terms of reliability in its segment. That, along with easy-to-use controls and high fuel efficiency, is some of the reasons why Toyota’s midsize sedan is the highest-rated model in its class by the organization and in the survey results that Consumer Reports gives out to its subscribers.

Like the US version, the Philippine-spec switched to hybrid-only power. We also got the new facelift version with a sharper-looking front end and overhauled interior. Features are almost alike, from the inclusion of Toyota Safety Sense (the brand’s advanced driver assist system), all the way to the power ratings. If anything, our Camry is better equipped as it includes more luxuries such as the rear window shades and reclining back seats. ??
Its 2.5-liter Atkinson Cycle engine is mated to two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. The result is 232hp and 221Nm that sends its power to the front wheels via an e-CVT.

Locally, the Camry is offered in just one variant, the 2.5 V HEV, and it retails for P2,677,000.
