Those fastidious engineers tell us this is especially important during a collision.

ZF’s new system uses sensors to continually measure the pressure applied at different points of the incident and adjusts the tension appropriately.
Obviously seat belts already retract to hug their ward, but clearly a 6’5” bodybuilder is going to put an entirely different amount of force on the belt than a 5’2” ballerina (neither pictured). Especially in the event of a crash.
The brand hopes that by developing something that’s more customisable, there’ll be fewer injuries caused by the belt being too tight or too loose at the wrong time. Would you pay more for a car with fancier seat belts?
