The luxury segment is getting more and more competitive by the day, as evidenced by this latest unveiling from Mercedes-Benz. The German carmaker has revealed the Concept GLA for the Shanghai Auto Show, and proves its serious intent to do battle in the premium compact SUV segment.
Expected to compete with BMW's X1 and Audi's Q3, the GLA is even smaller than the already compact GLK, measuring 4,383mm long, 1,978mm wide and 1,579mm tall. Still classified as a concept vehicle, the GLA is said to have a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 211hp and mated to Mercedes's 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
"The Concept GLA is a compact SUV that combines its sporting spirit with the all-round qualities of a tough, leisure-time companion," said Mercedes-Benz sales and marketing executive vice president Dr. Joachim Schmidt. "Escape the everyday...that's the message this car conveys to its driver."
