A driver’s license and vehicle registration—two of the most important requirements that any motorist must have before hitting the road. Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has clamped down on those who lack the latter, and the operations have yielded alarming results.

In June alone, the LTO apprehended a total of 10,461 unregistered vehicles. Among this, 6,824 were motorcycles, 1,787 were tricycles, 954 were private vans, 451 were private sedans, and 230 were trucks.

The LTO also reported that of the total, 9,212 motorists were issued with traffic violation tickets while the remaining 1,601 had their vehicles impounded. Some impounded vehicles included those that were being illegally used for public transportation, or colorum vehicles as they’re more commonly called.

Now, this is all well and good that authorities are able to catch erring motorists, but it also raises concerns about just how many vehicles are out there on the road being operated without the proper LTO registration. Here’s hoping crackdowns like these will serve as deterrents against these types of motorists.
