Are you a young filmmaker or someone who passionately cares about the state of our public transportation (or both)? If your answer is yes, here's some news you might want to know about.
Today, the Asian Development Bank announced a video contest centered on the theme "Are We There Yet? Our Journey To A Sustainable Transport Future." The competition, which is being held in time for ADB’s 5th Transport Forum set for September 12-16 this year, calls on participants "to submit originally made, short videos, depicting how people, both individually and collectively, can make a difference in accelerating the drive for safe, environmentally friendly, accessible and affordable transport for all."
Who are qualified to join? All citizens of any ADB member country aged 18 to 25 may participate in the competition. For the full listing of ADB member countries, see the roster at the bottom. Contestants may submit more than one entry. Deadline for submission of entries is on or before August 12, 2016.

"Asia faces formidable transport challenges, with carbon-dioxide emissions from the sector accounting for the lion’s share of global transport carbon-emissions growth, as well as the bulk of the high levels of pollution choking many cities," ADB said in a news release. "Nearly two-thirds of the world’s road traffic deaths and injuries occur in the region, and Asian economies lose 2% to 5% of their gross domestic product output every year due to road congestion. Growing populations and burgeoning cities mean the region needs to think about transport in a new way."
There will be two awards to be handed out for this contest: the Judges’ Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award. The prize? Now, this is the part that may not be too enticing for Filipino contestants, but we believe that the prestige alone of winning a contest organized by ADB should be more than enough reward for anyone--particularly if you're an aspiring filmmaker looking to make a name for yourself.
According to ADB, the prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to Manila to participate in the 5th Transport Forum in September. Said prize is not convertible to cash.
We're hoping there are young people reading this who truly care about the future of public transportation in this country. If you're one such individual and you know a thing or two about video production, we challenge you to join this contest. Just scan the comments on our Facebook page and you'll get brilliant ideas about sustainable transportation. Good luck!
