The Department of Transportation (DOTr) presented one of its newly built modern public utility vehicle stops in Marikina City on its official Facebook page. The DOTr has announced the construction of 103 modern PUV stops nationwide in addition to the 24 stops already built.

More than just a waiting shed, the modern PUV stops are solar-powered and feature CCTV cameras, safety bollards, seating, lighting, a bicycle-repair station, and even a charging station. The 24 PUV stops completed are located across Marikina, Manila, Malabon, and Quezon City, as well as in the municipalities of Kalibo and Malay in the Aklan province.

The DOTr said that before the introduction of these modern PUV stops, commuters struggled with the hot weather and rain while waiting for rides. Moreover, some areas near schools lacked adequate lighting, making it unsafe for students going home after dark. These modern PUV stops will serve as safe, comfortable areas for passengers waiting for the next jeepney or bus.

From the additional 103 modern PUV stops, 19 are currently under construction in Muntinlupa and Iloilo, while funding has already been secured for 84 more PUV stops in Palayan City, the Science City of Muñoz, Zamboanga City, Quezon City, Calapan, Cebu City, and Mandaue City.
