E-trikes and e-bikes have been subjects of public scrutiny for quite some time now. While it’s arguable whether or not the general public’s opinions are justified, there are times when you just won’t be able to help it and agree with them.
Case in point, an incident on the EDSA Busway this weekend. Gadget Addict shared on Facebook a photo of an e-trike flagged down by enforcers just by the Ortigas station. Them being on EDSA was already questionable—but inside the exclusive bus lanes? That’s an entirely different story. Not only is it downright illegal, but it’s also incredibly dangerous.

According to the Facebook post, the e-trike driver told the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) enforcers that he and his passengers were “looking for someone.” On the bus lane. In an e-trike. Sure.

Unsurprisingly, the excuse didn’t fly. SAICT enforcers reportedly coordinated with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority for the impoundment of the e-trike. While no driver’s licenses were probably taken and nobody was ticketed for the incident, this was a pricey lesson for the people involved.
For those of you reading, this should also serve as a reminder to stay out of the EDSA Busway. Whether you’re on two, three, or four wheels, keep out of the exclusive bus lanes.
