Looks like it’s finally happening: The EDSA rehabilitation project is set to begin on June 13, 2025.
Secretary Vince Dizon of the Department of Transportation said that the large-scale “total rebuild” of the thoroughfare may take two years to complete, based on discussions with the Department of Public Works and Highways. Work will start on the stretch from Roxas Boulevard in Manila and Guadalupe in Makati as officials target the completion of this section before the 2026 ASEAN Summit, which the Philippines is hosting.
“Total rebuild, babaguhin na natin ang EDSA,” Dizon said. “Mahirap siya habang ginagawa—ma-traffic, may perwisyo—pero kapag natapos ito, talagang napakalaking ginhawa para sa mga kababayan.”

According to Dizon, the DOTr has also reached out to San Miguel Corporation to request waived toll fees on portions of the Skyway. He said the elevated expressway can serve as an alternate route that motorists can take to bypass EDSA. Dizon added that the government may subsidize the cost of waiving the toll fees.
As reported earlier, the EDSA Busway will remain operational throughout the duration of the rehab. In sections of the bus lane that will be affected by repair work, EDSA Bus Carousel units will either share a lane with private vehicles or take up the lane next to the busway.
