The Land Transportation Office has issued a stern warning against vehicle owners with expired registrations: Renew, or your vehicle will be impounded. Violators will also incur a P10,000 fine, while their vehicles will need to pass roadworthiness inspections from the LTO.
LTO chief Vigor D. Mendoza announced that the agency will start impounding unregistered vehicles in August.

In June 2025, the LTO apprehended 20,307 vehicles with expired registration documents. 12,808 of those caught were motorcycles, and 3,992 were tricycles—making up the majority of the violations. Many vans and sedans were also found with expired registrations at 1,852 and 850, respectively. The rest of the pool consists of trucks, public jeepneys, and buses.

Over a third of the offending vehicles were logged by LTO Region IV-A CALABARZON with 10,516 cases—the most from a single LTO office. LTO Region IV-B MIMAROPA then recorded the second-highest figure at 2,925 violations.
Mendoza then said that there are many more unregistered vehicles: “The over 20,000 apprehensions for the month of June is just a small fraction of the total number of motor vehicles that we want to have their registration renewed. Marami na tayong nahuli, marami pa rin tayong hahabulin.”
It looks like owners with expired registrations have the month of July to renew their documents before their vehicles get impounded. Mendoza and the LTO have stressed that updated registration documents are crucial in verifying roadworthiness and vehicle safety.
