The Land Transportation Office seems to be summoning a lot more irresponsible drivers these days. Barely two weeks into July, two content creators have been issued show-cause orders for using their cellphones while behind the wheel.
Thankfully, the first content creator was quick to remove his video from social media and took responsibility for his reckless driving. In the video, he was seen recording himself while driving a Porsche on EDSA. He held his camera at a high angle with one hand and then faced away from the road. Soon after the SCO was released, he issued an apology and readily accepted the 90-day suspension of his driver’s license.

More recently, another content creator posted a video of herself driving with one leg up on the seat, and barely a hand on the steering wheel. She even takes her eyes off the road and glances at the camera, which is also a clear violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA). Like the aforementioned content creator, she is now obliged to appear before the LTO and explain why she should not be charged with reckless driving. Her driver’s license was also placed on a preventative 90-day suspension.

And just earlier this week, the LTO released six other SCOs after several cars were noticed racing in Tagaytay. Come on, now.
Hopefully, like the first content creator, these drivers hold themselves accountable for their actions and acknowledge their responsibility to their respective audiences. Their platforms capture hundreds of thousands of social media users, which further stresses the importance of sharing content that upholds safety for all road users, including pedestrians.
