The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) have joined forces to ‘Make Marilaque Road Safe Again.’ This safety campaign comes days after a ‘motovlogger’ fatally crashed into a barrier while riding at high speed on the Marilaque Highway.
The campaign will start with strengthening the presence of safety officers around the highway to further enforce safer motoring, and to crack down on illegal racing. However, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II has stated that stricter enforcement will not completely solve the issues around Marilaque, but rather better education and training for motorists.

For that endeavor, the PNP and LTO have pledged to work with the private sector on providing more training and learning opportunities for motorists across the Philippines. Mendoza also mentioned that one of the goals of the LTO this year is to reduce the number of road accidents by 50%. According to the PNP-Highway Patrol Group, there were at least 31,000 road accidents in 2024.
On the side of the private sector, motorcycle-taxi juggernaut Angkas held a demonstration at the University of Rizal System—only a few kilometers away from Marilaque Highway. There, Angkas CEO George Royeca echoed the same sentiments from Mendoza, calling for better education and training for riders.
It looks like the government and the private sector want the same things for the country’s roads and its riders. Hopefully, these initiatives can spring into partnerships that can make motoring education and safety training accessible to all drivers in the Philippines.
