The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has just launched a free bike-sharing service with three operational depots, which the agency calls ‘Bike Shelters.’ These shelters are located in Quezon City and Manila, and hopefully, we’ll see more in the near future.
The service is available Monday to Sunday, from 6am until 8pm. Helmets are also available at every shelter, and citizens can borrow them for free.

To avail of the free bike service, citizens will need to complete a bike-sharing form and present a valid ID. Bikes can only be rented for up to four hours, after which, they need to be returned to the depot from which they were originally borrowed. The MMDA has then set the following process for returning rented bikes.

MMDA free bike-sharing service: Process for returning bikes
- Return the rented bike and helmet to their original shelter
- Take a photo of the returned bike
- Take a photo of your valid ID
- Accomplish the client survey form
If a bike is lost or stolen, citizens will need to file a report at their nearest police station and then head to the MMDA Legal and Legislative Affairs Office and submit documents related to the incident.
This comes as the MMDA’s latest initiative to uplift cycling around Metro Manila. In April, the agency opened free shower facilities for commuters and cyclists to use at the end of their rides. If you’ve tried out these free bikes or the free shower rooms, feel free to share your experience in the comments section.
