Typhoon Inday is expected to make landfall soon, and as a precautionary measure, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has requested that mall operators open their spaces to those in need of overnight parking.
In a memorandum issued earlier today, the MMDA shared that starting on the evening of Thursday, July 9, operators are urged to keep their parking facilities accessible until the storm passes. Prior to that, SM Supermalls and several Ayala Malls had already waived overnight parking fees and offered shelter to affected citizens on July 8.

At the time of writing, SM Supermalls, Robinsons Malls, Visita Malls, and more have announced that they are offering free overnight parking. The MMDA has also not lifted the number-coding scheme. Rest assured that we’ll be keeping an eye out for the latest announcements.

The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also recently convened for an emergency meeting to discuss more precautions ahead of Typhoon Inday. The council ensured that all 73 pumping stations are operational and that emergency response equipment is readily available.

The latter includes rescue boats, tents, life jackets, power drills, and water purifiers. Food packs and other relief items were also secured. Concurrently, the MMDA continues its declogging operations to mitigate any flooding.
While the Department of Science and Technology declared that Inday has weakened into a typhoon, citizens are still advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor weather conditions. As of July 9, 8am, Typhoon Inday was found 875km east of Northern Luzon, with winds of 165kph and gusts of 205kph, and moving northwestward at 15kph.
